UID is soon history – it’s time for more secure technologies

Almost all access control sites today are using secure and modern access control readers with encryption. It is difficult to name an access control site willing to take the risk of someone copying their access cards.

As the demand for older UID readers based on the 125 kHz frequency decreases, we are discontinuing sales of the older generation 7 AH readers.

The majority of the readers we sell have long been based on secure and standardized MIFARE DESFire technology. Only specially programmed reader can read the card, and the communication between the reader and tag is protected by strong encryption.

When you purchase MIFARE DESFire readers from us, you retain ownership of the security keys for programming the readers and tags. In practice, this means you can take full advantage of the benefits of open MIFARE DESFire technology. If you wish, you can transfer management of the security keys elsewhere if you decide. Not all reader manufacturers allow this. In this case, you cannot switch device suppliers if you want to continue using compatible tags on your access control site.

Other new security-related updates from Idesco:

  • The new Cardea reader features: a reliable acceleration based tamper switch, MIFARE DESFire and OSDPv2 standard in the same reader
  • Transparent feature in all OSDPv2 readers
  • ISO27001 information security certificate
