Sourcing matters: where do your readers come from?
Just as Europe’s electronic industry has been focusing attention upon raw material sourcing, our customers have started asking where our readers’ chips and other critical components come from. This is because a product’s origin is important; it matters. It not only impacts product quality, reliable sourcing or even responsible environmental stewardship. A product’s origin affects – and is affected by – economic factors, fair employment standards and basic human rights.
Additionally, Covid and then Russia’s invasion revealed how vulnerable the availability of material and components from supposedly stable sources truly was. Now, as global political conditions continue growing more troubled and chaotic, the origin of high-tech products in Europe’s security and other sensitive businesses has become critical.
That is why we remind you that Idesco readers are manufactured only at Idesco headquarters in Oulu, Finland, and by a handful of carefully selected European subcontractors. All are designed in Finland, possessing Design from Finland’s certificate. All products manufactured in Finland are further certified with the Finnish Key Flag symbol denoting Finnish manufacturing. Finally, we do not source our readers’ critical components, e.g. chips, other electronic parts, from China or conflict areas.
We know this last point is vitally important to our security business customers, especially here in Europe. We want you to know we remain committed to working together with you, enhancing mutual sustainability, and a strong, stable European supply of secure reader products for you and your customers.
