Seppo Koivusaari’s remarkable journey at Idesco

Back in 1990, Seppo Koivusaari was working at Nokia when he decided to apply for an electronics designer job at a small start-up in Oulu with fewer than ten people. Idesco Oy had just been created after Rautaruukki acquired an identification technology from Germany, and the company was looking to develop it further.

Seppo’s first tasks involved working on the Intelligent Control Unit (ICU), a reader device with four so called “read heads” used in logistics — just as many early Idesco products. Soon after, Idesco branched out into access control and found great opportunities in the security business.

Over his more than 35 years at Idesco, Seppo has been contributing to the company’s growth and its reputation as a leader in RFID technology. Through his long career, he has built up a huge amount of know-how, insight, and hands-on experience with RFID technology and its many applications.

He says, “My time and career at Idesco have felt just right — I never felt the need to move on. The moments I remember best are the launches of new products, where I got to be involved from the design phase all the way to seeing the product reach our customers.”

The launch of the Cardea reader stands out as a particular highlight. “Customers can trust that we’ve put all our years of experience and knowledge into the new Cardea products,” Seppo says.

He also points out, “Idesco is in an industry that’s really growing and full of possibilities. The ways RFID can be used keep expanding, data security keeps getting more important, and AI will also have its role in the development. As long as we stay ahead like we always have, things will go well.”

Recently, two new electronics designers, Kimmo Kettunen and Hannu Siipola, joined the team and have been able to learn from Seppo’s experience as he gets ready to retire and start a new chapter in his life.

Seppo’s skills and knowledge have been a big part of Idesco’s success story. We want to thank Seppo Koivusaari for his commitment, and wish him all the best for the future!
