Quality Engineer Terhi Leiviskä
How quality shows in everyday work

Terhi, quality engineer, in her role

Quality is a broad concept. Simply put, it means our products and operations consistently meet the standards expected of them. Delivering high-quality products and services is the outcome of our team’s daily efforts. This work is supported by our quality certifications, internal guidelines, relevant laws and regulations — and our quality engineer, Terhi.

Terhi Leiviskä joined us a year ago, and her role is remarkably varied. She maintains documentation for our management system and drafts internal guidelines. Terhi develops our tools, keeps up with legislation, gathers data for reporting, takes part in development projects, and answers certain customer questions, for example those concerning the materials we use in our products.

We currently hold two quality certifications: ISO 9001 and ISO 27001. These certifications not only describe our processes but also shape our daily routines. ISO 9001 demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and regular quality measurement. ISO 27001 focuses on information security, showing we manage it systematically, constantly evaluating risks, and preparing for them. Both certifications are regularly audited. This is a key part of Terhi’s responsibilities.

Besides quality certifications, our operations are guided by other regulations, such as ESG requirements. Those are mainly set by public legislators and authorities, especially the EU. ESG regulations define how organizations should consider and report environmental, social, and governance impacts, risks, and practices.

“I regularly connect with customers about ESG topics, and it’s inspiring to see how responsibility and sustainability have become more important and evolved throughout my career,” says Terhi.

“During my first year at Idesco, I’ve learned a lot about an industry that was new to me. Discovering something new always energizes my day — especially when I figure out the best way to tackle a challenge.”

Continuous development is a natural part of a quality engineer’s work, as new requirements and expectations are always emerging. Environmental issues are especially important to us, so Terhi’s next step will be to explore ISO 14001 certification and what it could mean for us in practice. Our recently acquired Exilight brand is already ISO 14001 certified, which provides a useful reference point as we evaluate our next steps.

Quality isn’t based on guesswork. Even if operations already comply with certification standards, official certification confirms proven practices in real-world conditions and provides the best foundation for ongoing improvement.

“In this role, you’re always learning something new,” Terhi concludes.
