NIS2 directive tightens security requirements
The approaching Network and Information Security (NIS2) directive is increasing EU organizations’ information security requirements. While two-factor authentication (2FA) in electrical services has grown more common recently, it is expected NIS2’s new cybersecurity requirement will broaden 2FA’s application to other areas. It may even eventually compel upgrades to many organizations’ access control protocols. How so?
First, a little about 2FA. Two-factor authentication is a clever solution for protecting both assets and personal data. It works by requiring the submission of two different, independent identifiers. The independence of those identifiers is what protects against scamming and fraud. In access control, the easiest deployed form of 2FA forces users to transact with a tag (or card) and personal pin-code. Although access control can also use biometrics (e.g. face recognition, fingerprints, etc.) as a second authenticator, pin pad readers are more cost-effective and reliable especially in challenging environments and outdoor settings.
Idesco pin pad readers meet NIS2’s more stringent security requirement, while strengthening your security in other ways. Their highest combined impact resistance and protection classes, wide operational temperature range and highly reliable optical tampers keep them on the job in conditions that disable others.
Finally, Idesco protects reader transactions with cards and tags using the most secure encryption technologies. To protect data transmitted upstream to systems, you can choose from one of Idesco’s OSDPv2 readers supporting that highly secure, efficient data protocol.
We also ensure our customers retain important freedoms when purchasing one of Idesco’s open standard technology readers. Like all such open standard devices, an Idesco MIFARE DESFire or Legic reader remains compatible with those of other manufacturers. However, we go further by letting you decide the disposition of your readers’ security keys. Although we strictly protect your keys according to the latest information security practices, you remain free to transfer their ownership anywhere you want, whenever you wish.
Idesco has decades of experience designing and manufacturing reliable pin pad readers that are designed in Finland, then manufactured in Finland and across Europe. To prepare for your own increased security requirements, we invite you to learn more about Idesco’s securest pin pad readers.
